The world is filled with statistics, and plastic surgery is no exception. Since its rise in the 1960s, it has become a significant part of global data trends. Every year, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons releases a report detailing the number of procedures performed, the most popular treatments, and demographic insights such as age, gender, and location.
You might not be particularly interested in statistics, but they reveal a lot about trends and how people’s preferences evolve over time. So, let’s take a closer look at plastic surgery statistics in the blog!
Most performed plastic surgery this past year

According to ASPS and RealSelf, liposuction remains the most performed plastic surgery procedure. From 2023 to 2024, it saw a remarkable 144% increase among Americans. And it’s not just for women—while liposuction leads the rankings, breast lift procedures have also surged in popularity. In 2023, breast lifts ranked fourth, but they climbed to second place in 2024, boasting a 95% patient satisfaction rate.
Following closely is the tummy tuck, which has maintained its position with the same 95% satisfaction rate. Breast augmentation, which previously held the second spot in 2023, dropped to fourth place. Lastly, rhinoplasty rounds out the top five. However, its growth was modest, increasing by only 45% from 2023 to 2024, pushing blepharoplasty off the list.
Why has the breast lift surpassed breast augmentation in popularity?
In 2023, approximately 300,000 breast augmentation procedures were performed, while breast lifts accounted for only about 150,000. However, plastic surgery experts now refer to breast lifts as the “new boob job,” as more people prioritize maintaining volume and addressing sagging over simply increasing breast size. The preference for a more natural look has contributed to this shift, with some opting to avoid implants due to potential drawbacks.
That said, breast augmentation is far from outdated. Interest in natural breast augmentation using fat transfer has been on the rise. According to Dr. Bansal, 75% of his patients prefer using their own fat over traditional implants for a more natural enhancement.
